Life is full of surprises. We make plans, set goals, and work hard to achieve them. But sometimes, despite our best efforts, things don’t go as planned. We face unexpected challenges, encounter roadblocks, and find ourselves in situations we never imagined. Transitioning from expectation to calling doesn’t make sense until it makes sense.

Transparency moment: I was laid off from a job a prayed for in after almost three years working there due to budget cuts. While I was left with focusing on the unknown of tomorrow, next week, new month, etc., I also felt a sense of peace. In building my coaching business, I have found so much fulfillment. For the last few months, I had felt like God was preparing me for something and it was this! Now, I am navigating unemployment and entrepreneurship in faith and sometimes afraid, but at least I’m not alone.

For some of us, these unexpected turns can be disorienting. We may feel lost, confused, or unsure of what to do next. We may wonder why things aren’t working out the way we thought they would. But what if these unexpected turns are actually leading us to something better? What if they are guiding us towards our true calling?

Transitioning from what we expected or planned to what we are called to can be a challenging process, but it’s an opportunity to lean on your faith. It requires us to let go of our preconceived notions and open ourselves up to new possibilities. It means embracing uncertainty and trusting that everything will work out in the end.

Here are a few tips for navigating this transition:

Be OK in stillness: Take time to reflect on your thoughts and emotions. Notice when you’re feeling stuck or resistant to change. Try to approach these feelings with curiosity and openness.

Seek support: Talk to friends, family, or a therapist about your experience. Sharing your thoughts and emotions can help you gain clarity and perspective.

Try something new: Look for ways to try new things and expand your horizons. Take a class, join a club, or volunteer for a cause you care about.

Trust the process: Remember that everything happens for a reason. Even if you don’t understand why things are happening the way they are, trust that there is a greater purpose at work.

Transitioning from expectation to calling is not always easy, but it can be a transformative experience. By letting go of what we thought we wanted and embracing what we are truly called to do, we can find greater fulfillment and purpose in life. So, take a deep breath, trust the journey, and see where it takes you.
